Texas Collaborative Nursing Convention

 

March 29 – April 2, 2022

The Texas Collaborative Nursing Convention is a collaborative educational event established by eight Texas nursing associations.  These nursing associations represent more than 350,000 nurses across Texas.  Select from more than 210 educational topics/sessions.  Attend one of four special convention events that includes a networking social, dinners, breakfasts, and the convention party!

Join more than 3,000 nurses at the Austin Convention Center and share in CNE and CME educational events.  Tour an exhibit hall featuring more than 200 exhibitors.

The Plenary sessions in 2022 include our NEW Innovative Lab, an Advanced Practice Ultrasound Workshop, a Legislative Workshop, and a Podcast Lifestyle workshop.

To register, select any track specialty that would be your primary educational focus.  Although, at the convention if you find an interesting topic from another track, you can attend that session if you prefer.

Emergency / Critical Care

Track Summary
This track of education is targeted for LVNs, RNs, and APRNs, who work primarily in an emergency department, intensive critical care unit, and flight nursing. Two tracks of education provide 35 hours of total education.

Track Summary

This track of education is targeted for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses and Clinical Nurse Specialists.  Education provided in this track will obtain CME hours.  This education includes pharmacological licensure requirements.  This track promotes the Texas Nurse Practitioners (TNP) and the Texas Clinical Nurse Specialists (TxCNS). Two tracks of education provide 35 hours of total education.

Surgical Services

Track Summary
This track of education is targeted towards nurses who work in peri-operative, operating rooms, and post-operative care units.  Also, this track assists nurses working in ambulatory surgical centers. This track promotes the Texas Collaboration of peri-Operative Registered Nurses (TCORN).  Two tracks of education provide 35 hours of total education.

School, Pediatrics, Adolescent Nursing

Track Summary

This track of education is targeted for nurses working as school nurses and/or working in pediatric clinics and in-patient units.  This track promotes the Texas School Nurses Organization (TSNO). Two tracks of education provide 35 hours of total education.

Track Summary

This track of education is targeted for individuals employed in the C-Suite, department directors and managers, as well as leadership students and unit charge nurses.  This track promotes the Texas Organization of Nurse Leaders (TONL) and the Texas Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (TxACHE). Two tracks of education provide 35 hours of total education

Medical, Surgical, Telemetry Nursing

Track Summary

This track of education is targeted for nurses working on medical, surgical, telemetry, progressive care, and in-patient rehabilitation units.  This track promotes the Texas Organization of Associated Degree Nurses (TOADN). Two tracks of education provide 35 hours of total education.

Home Health, Hospice, Skilled Nursing

Track Summary
This track of education is targeted for nurses working in hospice units, home health agencies, and skilled nursing facilities. Skilled nursing facilities include nursing homes and assisted living centers.  This track promotes the Texas Home Care and Hospice Association. Two tracks of education provide 35 hours of total education.

Special Events

Conventions are not complete without additional opportunities to advance professional practice or nurse well-being. Our special events for this year include getting your idea for process improvement (or product) into research and design and manufacturing in the ONLY Innovation Lab, running for political office, performing bedside point of care ultrasounds, improving EKG interpretations, even the FIRST podcast workshop.

Advanced EKG Interpretation

Session Summary

This 4-hour presentation will cover basic and advanced cardiac electrophysiology. This course will not cover basic EKG interpretations, but rather, focus on interpretations that lurk underneath and between the lines. EKGs that are not always isometric.

The target audience include: ED and ICU medical residents, advanced practice providers primarily employed in EDs and ICUs, as well as nurses employed at the bedside EDs and ICUs.

Attendees will receive:

  • 4 CME Category I hours
  • More than 40 active EKG interpretations
  • Review book with additional 25 EKG interpretations

Legislative Workshop - 1 Day

Session Summary

This workshop will discuss Texas legislation efforts currently in Austin.  Including how nursing and medical organizations help in ensuring safe work environments and safe practice.  This workshop also discusses how nursing associations can work collaboratively for the betterment of our communities and the health of our citizens.

Ever wonder what it would take to run for political office?  This program offers high level discussion on what to expect when you decide to run for a political office, or school board.

Don’t forget to join us for a Political Action Committee (PAC) fundraiser.  The event will include a live band, dancing, food and beverages.  All proceeds will go to benefit the Texas Nurses’ Association Nursing Legislative Agenda Coalition (NLAC).  The proceeds will be earmarked for providing financial assistance to nurses who campaign and run for political office in Texas.

Advanced Practice Ultrasound Workshop - 2 Day

Course Summary
This plenary session is open to Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, and Physicians.  Primarily targeted for providers working in emergency departments or critical care services.  Preferred experience to be a provider for more than 2 years with basic understanding/knowledge of point of care ultrasound.

There will be a variety of more than 4 point of care ultrasound devices to practice from. Including the newest of point-of-care delivery ultrasound models.

This plenary session provides 93% hands-on practice.  The ratio is 5 students to 1 faculty to 1 live actor.

The attendee will receive 15.75 Category I CME hours for this education.  The faculty of this workshop are Emergency Medicine (EM) Fellowship Program Directors and Associate Directors.

This track promotes the Texas Nurse Practitioners (TNP) and the Texas Clinical Nurse Specialists (TxCNS).

TNA NLAC PAC Fundraising Event
Event Summary

The Texas Nurses Association oversees the Nursing Legislative Agenda Coalition (NLAC). This organization helps represent Texas nurses in Austin. Ensuring that your practice is governed by the professional – YOU! This event is a collaborative effort between the Texas Nurses Association and Kanon Health to raise money to assist nurses running for Texas political office, assist lobbying efforts on behalf of ALL nurses at the Austin Capital, and promote legislative efforts for nurses. 100% of the profits of this event will go directly to the NLAC fund for the purposes to support their mission. Innovative Lab

Course Summary

You will find this free event in the exhibit hall!

This is a NEW idea for those nurses who have an idea to better the delivery of care at the bedside or within the community.  We have brought together 4 companies to help you understand how to get your idea into research and development, funded, approved, and on the market.

Likewise, the leaders of these companies will help you understand if your product or idea has sustainability.  There will be several opportunities to participate and ask questions.  On Saturday, April 2, 2022 you will have the opportunity to schedule a 1 on 1 discussion with either of these companies to further discuss your idea and get real, hands-on advice and mentorship.

Podcasting Workshop

Course Summary
There are amazing opportunities to get up-to-date education on a variety of topics.  Podcasting provides a venue where you can learn any topic in under a few short minutes.

The hosts of this event include Kevin McFarlane, MSN, RN, CEN, NE-BC, host of the Art of Emergency Nursing Podcast, Nyssa Hattaway, BA, BSN, RN, CEN, CPEN, CFRN, Flight Nurse and host of the Q Word Podcast and her co-host Lisa.

The Podcasting Lifestyle discusses how to start a podcast, how to bring your passion to the audience and educate the masses.  How to keep the excitement and how to keep your topics current.

Kevin, Nyssa, and Lisa will talk about basic equipment needs and the best of equipment.  By either doing this part time or full time, podcasting is an exciting way to educate thousands of nurses, physicians, and the community at large!

Entrepreneur Seminar for the APRN

Speaker Information

Are you a specialist in your field? Or have a topic of interest for other fields of nursing? This collaborative nursing convention has more than nine categories for attendees to participate in. The participating nursing associations need more than 200 speakers! Kanon Health asks that each faculty submit four or more topics for the association committees to select from. One application for each topic (except a conflict of interest statement) must be completed. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

A selected faculty member will receive a $750 honorarium (to cover speaker fee and travel), as well as a regular, in-person free convention registration. There will be no other reimbursement of expenses.

Please submit a 200-300 word personal biography and a 200-300 word description of the topic. Both for the program book and website.
